Today, we’re sitting down with our student Lauren Tamayo, Founder of Lauren Tamayo! Originally from Olympia, Washington, Lauren gives us a glimpse into her online business journey…
Q: What type of online business do you own and what services do you offer?
As an NLP Practitioner, Hypnotherapist, and Mindset Coach, I focus on helping coaches get out of self-sabotage and break free from their limiting beliefs. That way, they can show up confidently, owning the value that they bring to their clients, and scale into expansive $10K+ months with ease.
“I launched Lauren Tamayo in 2019!”
Q: How did you discover the Bucketlist Bombshells?
I discovered the Bucketlist Bombshells one night after coming home from work and campus. While sitting in my college apartment, I was searching for something that I could pursue after graduation. I still had a year to go before graduating but when I stumbled upon a Bucketlist Bombshells video, I was instantly drawn in.
“I longed to have the opportunity to work online and travel the world!”
Q: What inspired you to enroll in the Bucketlist Bombshells Academy?
As I still had a little over a year before graduating, I decided that I would spend the next couple of months before graduation diving into the Bucketlist Bombshells Academy. I wanted to see if this was something that I could pursue after receiving my Bachelor’s degree!
Q: How have the courses helped you to become an online business owner?
The Bucketlist Bombshells Academy helped me set the foundation in my business and taught me skills that went beyond tech and design, such as productivity as a business owner and how to network!
Q: What type of job were you working in prior to running your own online business?
Prior to running my own online business, I worked as an international model and as a server at a golf country club.
Q: How long did it take you to ditch your 9-5, and how much time did you dedicate in order to make it happen?
I worked through the Bucketlist Bombshells Academy between my studies in college and while balancing my modeling work and other jobs.
“I still had a little over a year left before graduating, so I used that time to finish the courses and start working online.”
Q: What was the final push in your story to get you to ditch that 9-5 job?
I’ve actually never had a traditional 9-5 job. Before I even began to apply what I learned inside the Bucketlist Bombshells Academy, I decided to offer my services online!
“When I realized I didn’t have to have a 9-5 job, I booked a one-way ticket to Bali after graduation. I haven’t looked back since!”
Q: What is your process for finding and landing clients online?
I mostly use Instagram and Facebook to find and land clients online.
“I landed my first client just four days after I launched!”
Q: What has been your biggest setback, and how did you overcome it?
My biggest setback was having the confidence to set my rates at a price that reflected the value that I would bring my clients, their life, and their business. I continued to work on my mindset and the beliefs I had about making offers and sales, allowing me to continue to expand my services and raise my prices.
Q: What’s the most challenging part about running your online business?
The most challenging part has been deciding when “enough is enough” for the day. When you love what you do and it doesn’t feel like work, it’s easy to get caught up in working in and on your business all the time.
Q: Looking back on your online business journey, what is something that you’re most proud of?
I’m most proud of the moments where even though there was no certainty in what I decided to pursue, invest in, or do, I decided to trust my intuition and believe that it will always work out for me!
Q: If you could speak to your past self, what piece of advice would you give her?
I would tell my past self to just go for it.
“Start the business, pitch yourself for the dream job, and send the proposal!”
Q: How do you stay inspired and motivated to run your online business?
In an overly digital and online world, giving myself the time and space to do things outside of working on my business helps me stay motivated and inspired. Social media detoxes and filling my days and weekends with activities such as hiking, cooking, reading books, and learning to surf also help!
Q: Tell us what a “day in the life” looks like for you now that you’re running your own online business!
I start my mornings with my morning ritual. I spend time journaling or meditating while drinking my chai. Then, I either do yoga at home or go for a walk.
Most days, I start work at 9am, either working on my business and creating content to share on my podcast or coaching my clients. I love cooking so most nights you can find me and my boyfriend in the kitchen cooking up our favorite dishes. I finish the night by either watching Netflix or reading a book in bed.
“The best part of being my own boss is having freedom with my time and in my life.”
Q: What do you love most about the work you do and the clients you work with?
I love inspiring, educating, and empowering others to step into their fullest potential! I believe we all have unique gifts within us. Being able to help others unlock that and feel confident owning the value that they bring to the table is incredible. I am so grateful!
My clients are also mindset, life, or holistic coaches so we often share the same values and purpose in wanting to help others create the transformations within themselves, making work not even feel like work!
Q: What is your favorite destination to work remotely from?
Bali was easily my favorite destination to work remotely from! I love the energy you feel there with all of the other digital nomads and having access to so many beautiful cafes to work from. Being minutes from the beach and with many other breathtaking beaches and islands to visit is a definite bonus!
Q: What’s your favorite business tool that you’d recommend to other girl bosses? Why do you love it?
My favorite business tool is Asana. I couldn’t run my business without it! Everything that I do daily and weekly is planned and scheduled within my Asana. It makes my life easier having everything simplified and streamlined.
Q: What is one of your favorite business books that you would recommend to another girl boss and why do you love it?
I highly recommend You Are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Scenario! I love how she writes and that she is so funny! This was also one of the first books that I read about shifting your beliefs about money, and I found it really valuable.
Q: What’re your go-to favorite podcasts that you’d recommend to other girl bosses?
I love the Mind Your Business Podcast with James Wedmore. He talks about all things mindset, spirituality, and business.
The BossBabe Podcast with Natalie and Danielle is also amazing; the tips and conversations are worthwhile.
I also love the Manifestation Babe Podcast with Kathrin Zenkina. This is my daily dose of personal development, spirituality, and manifestation.
Q: What is your number one piece of advice for aspiring Bucketlist Bombshells?
If you feel like you were made for more and have a dream to work online and travel the world, take the leap! It is all possible and all you have to do is take the first step. The next will always follow!
