In the Spring of 2011, I was sitting in my sophomore dorm room at university, watching a speech from a girl my age, Maggie, who took a backpacking trip after high school when she met a poverty-stricken, 6-year-old girl in Nepal who was breaking rocks on the side of a riverbed as a child laborer.
Maggie was completely devastated by the fate of this little girl and used her babysitting money to enroll little Hima into school, a decision that would change her and Hima’s lives forever.
Maggie never returned from her backpacking trip — as she made it her mission, at 18-years-old, to build an orphanage in Surkhet, Nepal: the Kopila Valley Children’s home…
how it all started
10 years later...
Maggie is now the loving mom to 51 Nepali orphan children, runs the Kopila Valley School for 400 Nepali students along with a thriving women’s center.
We believe that amazing things happen when women support each other - in all corners of the world. So we asked ourselves, "How can we make this dream a reality?"
WE BELEIVE THAT we all have the power to create the world we want to live in.
