Today, we’re sitting down with our student Whitney Goff, Founder of Moon Room Collective! Originally from Seattle, Washington, Whitney gives us a glimpse into her girl boss journey…
Q: What type of online business do you own and what services do you offer?
I am the Founder of Moon Room Collective, a marketing agency focused on creating strategy with creative execution for small business owners. We take their business to the next level through strategic marketing, optimizing their business operations, as well as developing and launching their products.
Q: What inspired you to enroll in the Bucketlist Bombshells Academy?
I was unhappy with so many aspects of my life and ended up quitting my job. Afterwards, I moved back to Seattle to be near family for support. I started applying for jobs and taking interviews.
“Every time I went down the road of getting an in-house position, I always felt like it just wasn’t right.”
I had previously done some freelancing, so I made the decision to go all in with starting up my own business. That night, I signed up for The Work Online and Travel the World Course and never looked back!

Q: How did the course help you become an online business owner?
The Work Online and Travel the World Course helped me tremendously! Step-by-step, it walked me through how and what it takes to create a business, everything you need to think through in the process, and exactly how to successfully launch it!
Q: What type of job were you working in prior to running your own online business?
Previously, I was a Product Marketer and Developer for large cosmetic companies.
Q: How long did it take you to ditch your 9-5, and how much time did you dedicate in order to make it happen?
My life was at rock bottom, so quitting my job wasn’t the biggest struggle at the time. Luckily, I had saved enough money to take some time off to figure out what I truly wanted in life.
Essentially, it took me a year from the moment I quit my old job to then launching my own business. In the midst of that year, I had to go through the struggle of figuring out what I wanted, commit to the decision of starting my own business, and taking The Work Online and Travel the World Course.
Q: How long was it until you landed your first client online?
Three days after officially launching my business, the recruiter I had been working with to find a job asked me to build him a website!
Q: What has been your biggest setback, and how did you overcome it?
Because the mental mind game was so difficult for me and I faced a lot of fear and doubt, it was incredibly hard for me to answer the big question, “What do I want to do with my life?”
“Once I made the decision that I was going to take the risk and start my own business, things got much better!”
Q: What was the final push in your story to get you to ditch that 9-5 job?
I realized that I needed to make a big change in my life. I was an unhappy person struggling with broken relationships and personal isolation. I was in a really bad place.
Once I decided to change my life, I put in a lot of work! I hired a coach and took all the advice I was ever given to get myself back on track.
“I knew I had to do everything differently if I wanted to be truly happy.”
Q: Tell us what a “day in the life” looks like for you now that you’re running your own online business!
I love a long morning routine! I wake up, hit the gym, sip on some coffee while getting ready, and then pray and meditate. I sit down to start work around 10:30 or 11, and work for 6-11 hours.
Q: What’s the most challenging part about running your online business?
For me, the most challenging part of being a business owner is overcoming the fear of not finding clients.
Q: How do you stay inspired and motivated to run your online business?
I stay motivated by keeping a very strict routine because I can only create great work when I am completely focused!
“I’m inspired when I see a client get excited about the work I created.”

Q: What is your process for finding and landing clients online?
Networking with friends and getting referrals are how I land the majority of my clients. You would be surprised at what comes your way when you simply ask, “Do you know anyone who might benefit from working with me?”
“When I meet someone who has a small business that needs help I’ll say, ‘We should talk!’”
Q: What do you love most about the work you do and the clients you work with?
I love that I work with company decision-makers. We can work fast, efficient, and really create something great without a lot of red tape!

Q: What’s the best part about being your own boss?
The flexibility! I don’t have a boss or co-workers to make me feel bad about taking time off.
“I love that I can travel to see my friends and family whenever I want and still get my job done!”
Q: What is your favorite destination to work remotely from?
Right now, Utah. I’m not much of a world traveler while working person. My plan is to take a month off each year to go somewhere cool!
Q: What is one travel item you can’t live without when you’re working and traveling?
I have a killer travel toiletries kit! Narrowing down my personal care items is such a pain, but I now have a stocked kit of travel-sized everything that I just drop in my bag. I’m good to go anywhere carry-on only!
Q: What’s your go-to favorite podcast that you’d recommend to other girl bosses?
I love the Second Life Podcast!
Q: What is your number one piece of advice for aspiring Bucketlist Bombshells?
Commit to your dream! No matter how confident and capable you are, doubts and fears will creep in.
