Chiang Mai, Thailand

Why We Love It

Chiang Mai is a total Asia hotspot for digital nomads (aka location-independent girl bosses!) and it’s no surprise as to why! Located in the mountain region of Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is a quick 1 hour flight from bustling Bangkok.

Aside from having a killer coffee culture and amazing food (everything from fine dining to tasty street carts) there are so many fun activities to do in and outside of the city when you need a break from your laptop screen.

There’s also an excessive amount of coffee shops to get your wifi and caffeine fuel on, which is a must-have for any location-independent entrepreneur.

Here’s a guide to some of our favorite spots when you’re living as a location-independent girl boss in Chiang Mai, Thailand!

Scooters! If you’re new to riding a scooter, we recommend taking a driving lesson before renting. It’s also important to have an International Drivers Licence to avoid getting a ticket. Oh, and always wear your helmet!

Why is Chiang Mai a popular location for digital nomads?

Thailand in general is a very inexpensive country compared to developed countries which makes it a great choice for those location independent entrepreneurs who want to keep their cost of living very low, while still maintaining a great quality of life (like in Chiang Mai!). There’s also a large community of digital nomads which makes it a popular go-to destination to be surrounded by lots of like-minded people!

What is the cost of living in Chiang Mai for one month?

Accommodations can vary from incredibly inexpensive apartments ($100/month) to a luxury serviced-apartment for around $500/month. Food is also very inexpensive ranging from $1-2 USD for a delicious meal!

Where do you recommend working from in Chiang Mai?

Chiang Mai is filled with many cafes that cater to online entrepreneurs which means that wifi is plenty and you’ll find plenty of other people cozied up in front of their laptop. With so many fantastic coffee shop options, we prefer this over working from a local coworking space.
