Longing to have a business bestie to bounce ideas off of, collaborate with, and talk shop with?
There are so many perks to giving up the 9-5 corporate life…But one of the most difficult parts of transitioning to the freelance and remote work world is that it can be incredibly lonely!
No longer are the water cooler coworker chats, break room lunches, or random office events and parties… (except for you lucky chicas with an office mascot/pet!)
And we know all too well that reaching out to other women and finding a business bestie can seem totally scary and overwhelming. But the good news is that today, we’re sharing six tips to help you find the business bestie of your dreams!
But first…
Why You Need A Business Bestie (or multiple!)
Having a business bestie is so important while working in the virtual world! From moral support and inspiration to community and connection, a business bestie will be there to pick you up on your worst days and celebrate with you on your best!
Because let’s be honest, sitting at your computer by yourself all day can be isolating, lonely, and less than inspirational. And there’s just something therapeutic about baring your soul to someone who understands what it’s like to work in the remote world and freelance industry.
Wait in isolation no longer, chica! Here are six tips to help you find your business bestie…
1. Join Female Entrepreneur Facebook Groups
Facebook has an abundance of groups full of potential business besties! There are so many women who have started businesses and are totally feeling the loneliness of working by themselves.
Here are a few of our favorite free Facebook groups for finding your online biz (and even travel!) besties:
- The Bucketlist Bombshells Community
- Freelancing Females
- Female Digital Nomads
- Girls LOVE Travel
- Digital Nomad Girls
Write a post introducing yourself and ask if anyone is looking for an accountability or business bestie to connect with! We also find it helpful to share a bit about yourself and your business (ie. where you’re currently located, your passions, etc.) along with a fun photo of yourself for extra attention!
2. Connect On Instagram & Slide Into DMs
Been following a fellow girl boss on Insta for a while now and totally girl crushin’ on her feed and stories?
Take the next step and slide into her DMs! Tell her how much you admire her work and how you would love to connect!
The key here? Be genuine! Don’t turn into a creepy fan girl or try to fake it until you make it out of desperation. Reach out to women who you think you could have a strong connection or share a passion with.
3. Join A Coworking Space
Joining a coworking space is a great way to get out of the house and begin interacting with other remote workers and potential business besties!
And although your home office might be steps away from the fridge and your local coffee shop has free wifi and delicious lattes, you aren’t given the best opportunities to connect and network in these spaces!
Instead, sign up for a spot at a good coworking space — one that holds events and has networking opportunities! (Free coffee is also a plus!)
Be purposeful during your work breaks and interact with other girl bosses around you! Work up the courage to attend the coworking space’s events and be intentional about your conversations while you’re there!
Not quite ready to fully commit to a full-time membership? No worries, girl! Many coworking spaces offer a day pass so you can try it out!

4. Attend Conferences
Looking to connect with other talented, like-minded girl bosses while also learning some incredible tips and tricks from the best of the best?
Conferences and networking events are excellent ways to meet people, find new job opportunities, and educate yourself on the latest advancements in your niche!
Plus, the best part about finding business besties at conferences is that you know they’re willing to invest in themselves and their business just like you!
Here are some of our favorite conferences and events:
- Running Remote
- Creative at Heart
- Create & Cultivate
- Altitude Summit
- Designer Vaca
- Social Media Marketing World
5. Set Up Coffee Chats: Virtual or IRL
Now that you’ve found a few potential business besties, take the relationship a bit further by reaching out to grab coffee (or tea!) virtually or IRL.
It’s a great time and place to bounce ideas off of one another, work up some killer collaborations, and work towards reaching your girl boss goals!
Whether your coffee chat is 15 minutes or an hour long, spending time talking and connecting with another girl boss will help you return back to your work feeling energized, inspired, and oh so refreshed!
Some of our greatest creations and dreams were born with a coffee in hand and a business bestie by our side!
Tip: Once you’re connected with your biz bestie, we recommend setting a consistent time to meet at least every other week 🙂
6. Host a Local “Wine & Mastermind”
Every week while in Bali, we hosted a Wine & Mastermind where we would open up our home and invite women in our community who were building businesses. It was absolute magic!
The women we invited would then also invite other women that they knew in town. Soon enough, it developed into an amazing time and space for networking, business inspiration, and building community!
Because sometimes if you can’t find what you’re looking for, you simply need to create it yourself 🙂
Just remember, chica — Once you find your business bestie, you have to put in the effort to maintain the relationship! Be consistent with staying in touch and having your coffee dates. Relationships take time and effort, but the rewards are SO worth it…
Now, go find your future business besties and get ready to be so supported and inspired!
