Work Online, Travel The World + Live Creatively
4 Essential Steps To Start An Online Business And Travel The World!
Chiang Mai is a total Asia hotspot for digital nomads (aka location-independent girl bosses!) — and it’s no surprise as to why! Aside from having a killer coffee culture and amazing food, there are so many fun activities to do in (and outside) of the city when you need a break from your laptop screen.
Here’s a guide to some of our fave activities to do when you’re living as an online girl boss in Chiang Mai! Let’s get to it girl!
GET CREATIVE AT A CERAMICS CLASS
Ready to get your hands dirty and your creative juices flowin’? InClay Pottery Studio is an adorable locally-run ceramics, open-air studio located in a peaceful backyard garden, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The owner, Jirawong is incredibly patient and friendly — and you’ll learn about different types of local clays and sustainable firing methods. You’ll also walk away having handcrafted a piece that you’ll cherish forever.

CATCH A VIP MOVIE AT MAYA MALL
You have not lived until you’ve experienced a VIP movie experience in Asia! Maya Mall is a large, lifestyle shopping center in the center of Chiang Mai with everything a girl needs (ahem H&M!) plus, the top floor boasts a large SFX Cinema. Check out the showings for a VIP movie — and get ready to have one of the best movie movie experiences of your life.
ATTEND A LOCAL MUAY THAI FIGHT
A must-do as Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand! Head to Tha Phae Boxing Stadium (near the Tha Phae Gate) to watch young fighters battle out their Muay Thai skills. The arena is basic and tickets are fairly cheap to get at the door so we recommend grabbing a seat ring-side to get the full experience. It definitely makes for a fun, entertaining night out with friends!
WANDER THE SUNDAY NIGHT MARKETS
One of our fave Sunday evening activities — start at the Tha Phae Gate in the center of the old city of Chiang Mai and spend a few hours walking through endless stalls of handcrafted goods made by Northern Thais, local food and street performances. The Sunday Night Market draws in a massive crowd but trust us, it’s so worth it. We recommend going after 5pm and also making a dinner activity out of it — you can literally have a whole feast of local foods for less than $5 USD!
INDULGE IN A THAI MASSAGE
Arguably one of the best activities in Chiang Mai is to indulge in a Thai Massage — our favorite spot is in the old city called Green Bamboo Massage. A one-hour massage will only set you back about $5 USD (cray!) and you’ll walk out feelin’ totally zen. Dare we say you should make it a daily practice?
ROAD TRIP TO DOI SUTHEP MOUNTAIN
Chiang Mai is filled with temples — but this one is by far one of the most grand! Wat Phra That temple sits on the top of the Doi Suthep Mountain just outside Chiang Mai and is such a gorgeous scooter ride and site to see. We loved going in the late afternoon to watch the sunset from the top of the temple!
GET A HAIRCUT AT NEW YORK NEW YORK SALON
I’ll be the first to admit that I was incredibly nervous about getting my haircut in a different country. New York New York Salon is honestly one of the best salons I’ve ever been too — no exaggeration chica. Their salon is incredibly professional, their service is top-notch and it was the best (and only) $15 USD haircut I’ve ever received. I was so in love with their service, the next time I was staying in Chiang Mai for the month I headed straight there for a Keratin Treatment to tame this frizzy mane.
VOLUNTEER AT AN ETHICAL ELEPHANT SANCTUARY
It’s extremely important that you do your research on ethical elephant retreats in Chiang Mai. After extensive research, we found the Patara Elephant Farm which is a humane elephant sanctuary where we were able to intimately interact with these gentle giants for a day! It was an incredible experience, and really opened our eyes to the world of elephant conservation.
GET PAMPERED AT CITY NAILS
If you’re like us, you love indulging in a good mani/padi — our favorite nail salon in Chiang Mai is City Nails. Their service is friendly, super detailed and you’ll feel totally relaxed in their giant reclining chairs.
LISTEN TO LIVE MUSIC AT WARM UP
Basically everybody in Chiang Mai knows about Warm Up — and it’s one of the most popular spots to hang with friends and listen to live music each night! The bar is huge — with different spots from an outdoor terrace on the second floor, an indoor lounge and an outdoor cafe. If you’re feeling like a lively night — head here!
TAKE A THAI COOKING CLASS
This should be one of the first activities that you do within your first few days in Chiang Mai because it will totally broaden your horizon of the local Thai food beyond the basic Pad Thai and Green Curry. We had the absolute best experience at Thai Orchid Cooking School where we picked produce at a local market, then learned how to cook the most delish 3-course Thai meal!
