Today, we’re sitting down with our student Angie Timmermans, Founder of Going Smooth! Originally from Nice, France, Angie gives us a glimpse into her online business journey…
Q: What type of online business do you own and what services do you offer?
I’m the Founder of Going Smooth, where I offer branding and web design services. We work with small, purpose-driven service providers who care about our planet and are looking to become more visible online.
“I officially launched September 15th, 2020!”
Q: How did you discover the Bucketlist Bombshells?
I discovered the Bucketlist Bombshells through an Instagram ad!
Q: What inspired you to enroll in the Bucketlist Bombshells courses?
I was inspired to enroll in the Bucketlist Bombshells courses because I had been dreaming of working online for a long time!
“I had been unemployed for a year and was feeling so down after a long and unfruitful job hunt.”
Q: How have the courses helped you to become an online business owner?
Q: What type of job were you working in prior to running your own online business?
Prior to launching Going Smooth, I had been unemployed for a year. Before that, I was working with the United Nations in the Middle East (Beirut) in project management for conflict resolution across the region.
Q: How long did it take you to ditch your 9-5, and how much time did you dedicate in order to make it happen?
I started the Bucketlist Bombshells courses at the beginning of August 2020 and finished them one month later at the beginning of September 2020. Mid-September of 2020, I launched Going Smooth to become a full-time lady boss!
“Prior to launching, I spent about 20 hours a week going through the courses and figuring everything out!”
Q: What was the final push in your story to get you to ditch that 9-5 job?
My aha moment was realizing that job hunting didn’t work for me, acknowledging that was ok, and telling myself that I was going to try something else!
Q: What is your process for finding and landing clients online?
I find and land clients through networking on social media. My niche loves LinkedIn, so I use that platform often. I also connect with new clients on Instagram and in Facebook groups.
“I landed my first client two weeks before I officially launched my online business!”
Q: What has been your biggest setback and how did you overcome it?
My biggest setback was my mindset. Having been out of the workforce for so long and so desperate to get an income, I needed to start believing in myself again.
Q: What’s the most challenging part about running your online business?
The biggest challenge about running Going Smooth is that I work wayyy too many hours. I had to put a timer on my phone to stop myself. Another challenge is that I had to learn everything about marketing!
Q: Looking back on your online business journey, what is something that you’re most proud of?
When I first started, I was drowning in self-doubt. Now, I’m confident, ready to try new things, and excited about the day and the future!
Q: If you could speak to your past self, what piece of advice would you give her?
I would tell my past self that there is no need to worry. The right things will eventually come your way!
Q: How do you stay inspired and motivated to run your online business?
I stay inspired and motivated to run Going Smooth many different ways:
In the morning, I do yoga, have a good read, and sometimes listen to motivational speeches. This morning routine helps to boost my energy.
Additionally, I control my time on social media. When I’m online, I engage and post and don’t scroll forever.
I also always try to focus on the positive and always tell myself what I am grateful for. I make regular assessments of the previous week/month, remind myself that overthinking doesn’t help, and also make myself take breaks. It’s so easy to get caught up in what I do, but the thing is, work never stops.
“I just hired an awesome Virtual Assistant to help me with my business!”
Q: Tell us what a “day in the life” looks like for you now that you’re running your own online business!
Now that I am running Going Smooth, every day looks a little different. However, these things are always constant:
- Morning yoga
- Updating my knowledge of the field
- Client work
- Catching up with my Virtual Assistant
- Working on my business
- Preparing tasks for the next day/week
Q: What’s the best part about being your own boss?
I didn’t know I would be learning sooo much every day. I love it!
Q: What do you love most about the work you do and the clients you work with?
I love that I get to implement my ideas and see clients be amazed when they receive their designs. I also love that my clients always come to me for advice too!
Q: What is your favorite destination to work remotely from?
I like to work from home, it’s my “bubble.” I’m going to try to work in coffee shops after the pandemic though!
Q: What’s your favorite business tool that you’d recommend to other girl bosses? Why do you love it?
Trello! I love that I can display my projects visually and that everyone on the team can share their work and checklists.
Q: What is one of your favorite business books that you would recommend to another girl boss and why do you love it?
I highly recommend Small Giants by Bo Burlingham. It does an amazing job of capturing the spirit of small business owners!
Q: What is your number one piece of advice for aspiring Bucketlist Bombshells?
Don’t overthink it, just do it!
