COST OF EATING OUT

The quality of food here for the price is incredible, which means we find ourselves eating out for almost every meal.

In general, here’s our average for what it costs per meal to dine at:

Western-style restaurant: approx $7-10 USD
Local Indonesian warung: approx $1-5 USD

So, what’s a “warung” you ask?

To try local Balinese food, head to a “warung”, where you can eat like a local for approx. $3 USD. A warung is what they call a small, usually family-owned, eatery in Indonesia.

It is part of the daily life for the locals and where most people grab a quick, filling bite to eat in the middle of the day. Some warungs will have seating, others will be more of a cart of hut-style, either way we suggest trying a few of them while you’re staying in Bali to get the full local experience.

Our fave warungs in the center of Canggu are Bumi and Varuna.

Plus, their service is so dang friendly you might just make this a daily occurrence 😉

COPENHAGEN

MILK + MADU

Another hit for the guys of the “Good Food Brotherhood” — Milk + Madu is a Canggu staple for it’s buzzing morning vibes, outdoor tables and yummy food. On the weekends, it tends to be more of a family spot as kiddos play in their little playground. Also, be on the lookout for their weekly specials like “Margarita Night” and “All You Can Eat Pizza” (yes please!). If you’re a Milk Chai Tea fan, you’ve gotta try the one here.

WATERCRESS

Okay, so Watercress is about a 15 minute scooter drive out of Canggu on your way to the neighboring town of Seminyak, but, it’s so dang good that we head here for brunch at least once a week! Our favorite brunch order is the “Sprouted Goodness” with two poached eggs. They also serve up Revolver Coffee — arguably the best coffee on the island!

BEST LUNCH & DINNER SPOTS

Most spots that are just as perfect for lunch, are also a great spot for dinner. Here they are in no particular order:

MOANA FISH EATERY

If you’re a total fish lover — then you must head to Moana like everyone else in town. The Maui Poke Bowl is pure perfection and the cozy, Hawaiian vibes make this a go-to dinner spot! Be sure that you make a reservation beforehand to snag a seat. Reservations are quite uncommon throughout most of Canggu, but this play is THAT good.

LA BARACCA

If you thought Italian comfort food wouldn’t be available in Canggu, then you’re mistaken (we weren’t lying when we said there’s a little bit of everything here!) La Baracca, translated into English as “The Shed”, does not disappoint even the most Italian customer with cozy rustic vibes and arguably the best pizza and pasta on the island! It’s a great spot for dinner with friends or date night — just be sure to make a reservation so you can skip the wait.

GREEN GINGER NOODLE HOUSE

Green Ginger is a hidden gem in Berawa — it almost makes us want to keep it to ourselves, but too late 😉 Their menu is 100% vegetarian and so authentic and fresh! It’s a bit of a Thai fusion with delicious Pad Thai, Lakksa and curries to satisfy all your cravings.

CAFE VIDA

Want an all organic menu with some of the best locally sourced foods? Head to Cafe Vida. We love the more traditional Balinese flare of this spot — they serve up our favorite salads, tonic elixirs and healthy desserts — plus, if you can snag a spot in their little garden outback with a koi pond, you’ll be seriously zen.

KOI

Koi is the perfect go-to for a casual, quick and delicious homemade meal. You have the option of ordering out of their buffet style case, or ordering off their traditional menu. We’re kind of obsessed with their salmon sushi roll — but honestly anything you order here will be made with the freshest ingredients and prepared with care!

FISHBONE LOCAL

Right in the middle of all the action, Fishbone Local is THE go-to dinner spot before a night out these days. Their food is incredible — think fresh tuna, sweet potato and ginger mash and barramundi dishes that will leave you savoring every bite. Their cocktails are also just as delicious — get ready to have dinner while enjoy some good tunes in this trendy dinner spot!

LEROY’S

Having a craving for Vietnamese? Leroy’s is a quaint little spot tucked away in Canggu but is serving up mean Pho and Banh Mi sandwiches among other faves. It’s the perfect spot to meet a friend for dinner or have a date night.

DANDELION

If you’re looking for quality, delicious Balinese food in a quaint environment, then Dandelion is the way to go! This eatery is located in a traditional Balinese style joglo with outdoor garden seating as well. Their eclectic decor is totally complete with bunnies (yes real bunnies!) hoppin’ around the garden. How cute is that? Their servers are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet and love to give you an inside taste of local Balinese culture.

WARUNGS ON ECHO/PERERENAN BEACH

There are plenty of warungs that dot the beach along Echo Beach and Pererenan Beach — they’re perfect for an inexpensive, casual bite to chill among the beach goers and watch the surfers catch some waves.

They serve all the Mexican favorites, including churros, quesadillas and delicious tacos. The vibe is humming with their bright decor and beats playing in the background. It’s a great dinner or happy hour spot!

BBQ ON ECHO BEACH

If you’re wanting a casual lunch or dinner — head for a yummy buffet-style BBQ right on Echo Beach as you watch the waves roll in. It’s a fun spot to meet a group of friends and enjoy your meal with the wind in your hair and the salty air. Oh, island life!

KEMBALI BUMBAK

Located in the exclusive and quieter Umalas area, Kembali Bumbak is an absolute hidden gem. It reminds us of a modern greenhouse (with AC!) and a large adorable patio to dine in the Bali Breeze. Their menu is a delicious combo of salads, smoothies, burgers and even fried chicken. It’s effortlessly cool — and once you go once, you’ll keep comin’ back.

Whether you’re wanting to do a 10-day cleanse, or just recover for a day, the Jiva juices are amazing and made from locally sourced produce. You can find their juices in the coolers of multiple cafes around Bali, but we suggest setting up a delivery order if you want to pick specific blends and do a full cleanse. Deliveries are made daily and can be made over phone or WhatsApp…gotta love it!

BEST FOOD DELIVERY

GOJEK

Craving a night in? Working through the afternoon? No problem – cue Go Jek (basically like Uber Food but a quarter of the price!) Simply download the app on your phone and order pretty much any type of food right to your doorstep for only about a $1 USD delivery fee! Go Jek isn’t only for food, you can order groceries, house cleaning, even a massage!

BEST SUPERMARKETS

PEPITO

Setup like a traditional western supermarket, you’ll be able to find pretty much anything you need here. You’ll find the closest Pepito in the center of Canggu, on Batu Bolong street.

CANGGU SHOP

Canggu Shop is a small local shop that is stocked with health food products that are hard to find in traditional grocery stores. This is our favorite spot for fresh Almond Milk, Cashew Milk, Nuts, Ginger shots, essential oils, kombucha, kefir and more!

CANGGU STATION

Canggu Station is a grocery store and great spot to stop in for wine and cheese – setup deli style and always has a wide range of food options as well as many international imported items.

SAMADI MARKET

You’ll find plenty of local farmers markets while staying in Canggu, but the Samadi Market happens every Sunday at this popular yoga studio. Here you can find fresh fruits and locally made products (the market wraps up at 2pm so be sure to get out there early!)
